Asylum
- Asylum is granted to individuals who are currently in the U.S. and have a well-founded fear of persecution on account of their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership into a particular social group.
- The individual has to show that there is no other place of his home country that he can go to and be protected from persecution.
- If you are granted asylum in the U.S., you, your spouse, and unmarried children under the age of 21 can receive asylum status.
- You and your family are eligible to apply for a green card after one year of receiving asylum status.
- After a five-year period of being a permanent resident, you will be eligible to become U.S. Citizen.
